Carol Jean (Downard) Penrod, 73, passed away on May 31, 2017 in her home in St. George, Utah after battling leukemia. She was born the youngest of 3 children on May 8, 1944 in Price, Utah to Alden Neils and Lois McMullin Downard. She graduated from Carbon High school in 1962. Throughout both high school and college she enjoyed participating in various groups and activities including: pep club, sororities, and remaining active in planning and attending her class reunions over the years. In November 1973 she was married to her husband Lawrence ("Larry") Penrod, a police officer from California. Two years later they were sealed with their son in the Manti LDS temple. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered for her strength, service, and her fierce love and devotion to her loved ones. Everyone she met soon became "family". She is survived by her brother Karl Downard of St. George, her son Troy Penrod (Amy Palmer) of Salt Lake City, granddaughter Jessica (Daniel) Koopmans of Spanish Fork, and her five cherished great-grandchildren: Adelyn, Teagan, Rowan, Falyn and Evelyn. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Price LDS 1st Ward (150 South 500 East, Price, Utah). A viewing will take place prior to the funeral from 10:00-10:45 am.
