David "Max" Zachary

October 17, 1931 — September 17, 2023

David “Max” Zachary, 91, went to be with our Lord on September 17, 2023 in Ferron, UT. He was born in his grandfather’s home in Lubbock, TX to Frank & Bessie Zachary. Max graduated from Texas Tech with a degree in accounting in 1952 where he then joined the Air Force and became a 2nd Lieutenant. He married Betty Jean Kendrick in Lovington, NM on January 19, 1957. They had 4 children together, David, Tom, and the twins, Vic & Nicki and he also raised Lynn (Betty’s daughter from a previous marriage) as if she were his own. Max’s professional experience was impressive and varied as he held positions ranging from Small Business Owner (Western Auto), to Banking and Finance (First National Bank of Marietta and Diamondhead Corp/Newport-Comptroller) and the Oilfield Chemicals industry (Western and Unichem). However Max’s position as Purchasing and Plant Manager at Unichem was his favorite and although he was proud of his many accomplishments while working at Unichem, he was equally as proud and thankful of the many long-lasting friendships he forged while working there. At age 65, Max was fortunate enough to retire and pursue his other passion – Golf. On most days, you could find Max at Ocotillo golf course (now Rockwind) every afternoon with his quarter buddies. Other times, he might be flying to a different golf course to play with Tom, Karen, and/or Vic. Max was a wonderful caregiver for Betty during her illness prior to her passing in 2001. He went on to marry Martha in Hobbs, NM on October 17, 2002 until her passing in 2012. Max loved his family more than anything in the world and in his later years lived with Nicki before his final home at Emery County Care where they love and adored their “Maxie”. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank & Bessie Zachary, his brothers, Vic, Worth, and Rex Zachary, his wife Betty Zachary and Martha Zachary, and daughter Lynn Gant. He is survived by his sons David, Tom, Vic, and daughter Nicki as well their spouses Candy, Karen, Yvette, and Rich. He had 11 grandchildren, Lese, Allen, Mandy, Nicki, Erin, Keegan, Allyson, Ashlee, Taylor, Dustin, Brody, as well as 15 great grandchildren. Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Hobbs, NM at 2:00pm on October 4, 2023. There will not be a burial, however a celebration of life will follow at 3:30 at 5730 N Ja-Rob Ln, Hobbs, NM where we will share stories and praise our Dad, Uncle, Papa, and Grandpa for the wonderful man he was and an inspiration to us all. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his name to the Dementia Society of America. To leave condolences, visit www.fausettmortuary.com
