Ferne L. Foster Barker Meredith The beautiful soul of an amazing woman was called back home. Ferne Meredith, 96 was born August 19, 1919 in Kelsey, Texas, to Landy Marvin Foster and Mattie Lee Arney. Ferne passed away peacefully March 29, 2016. When Ferne was 15 years old she married Roy "Turk" Barker, together they had 3 children, Art F. Barker, Bonnie Lee Gibson, and "Little Roy" Barker. They later divorced in 1957. Ferne later met and married John William Meredith in 1963. He had one daughter Wilma Francis Meredith. Ferne started working in the Wellington Post Office in 1945 when she was 26 years old. When she was 27 she became the Postmaster of Wellington, Utah. Harry S. Truman President of the United States signed her certificate. She received the highest score a postal inspector had ever given for their very first inspection. When Ferne attended her first convention in St. George, Utah, she was elected Vice President of the Utah chapter of National Association of Postmasters of the United States, and later served as Secretary for 6 years. She never missed a Postmaster convention. Ferne attended National Conventions in New York, Boston, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles, California. She also had the opportunity to meet President Lyndon Johnson. She retired as Postmaster March 1979. Ferne loved to stay busy, after her retirement she traveled all over the world. She loved to dance, loved the holidays with her family, big meals, extravagant decorations anything festive or any excuse to get her family and friends together. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-Day Saints. Her family will always remember her for, her stunning "red" hair, hand knitted Barbie doll clothes, Clorox bottle Easter Baskets, homemade prom dresses/tuxedo jacket, the big family holidays, meals, fat noodles, rolls, huge garden her and grandpa John raised, and the many hours spent canning. Ferne is survived by; her daughters Nellie Barker of Wellington, Wilma Meredith of Bozeman, Montana. Grandchildren; Chad (Traci) Barker, Karon Barker-Griffin, Gary Barker and Michelle, Kirk (Christie) Gibson, and Brenda Petroff. Great-grandchildren; Nick Barker, Chris (Alisha) Barker, Mindi (Gene) Tullio, Greg Barker, Jeremy Andreini, Matthew Juliano, Ashley Noyes, Da'Jene Barker, Bodie Barker, Dillon (Meagan) Gibson, Cody Gibson, Jared Peroff, Jaquie Petroff. 7 Great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew John (Shirley) Alger, and special companion Tony Salazar. Ferne was preceded in death by her children Art F. Barker, Bonnie Lee Gibson, and "Little Roy" Barker. Her parents Landy Marvin Foster and Mattie Lee Arney. Husbands Roy "Turk" Barker and John W. Meredith. Brothers Nephi Foster, Landy M. Foster Jr. Sisters Carmen Brennan, and Muriel Alger. Special thanks to Rick Stockerger & staff Symbii, staff at Pinnacle Care & Rehab & Heirloom Inn for their compassionate care. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Fausett Mortuary in Price (680 E. 100 S.) at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing one hour prior. Internment will be in the Price City Cemetery.
