Jackie Zwahlen

Jacqualine "Jackie" Zwahlen, age 81, our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2019 at Emery County Care and Rehabilitation Center. Jackie was born November 13, 1937 in Salt Lake City to Bernerd and Virginia Jewkes. She married John F. Zwahlen May 25th, 1961. Jackie spent her life in Salt Lake City, California and the last 59 years in Ferron. She held a few jobs early in her life, one at Strong Construction supporting the building of the Mill Site Dam, but her most meaningful and impactful employment were the 25 years she spent working as the secretary at San Rafael Junior High School. During her tenure she provided guidance and support, encouragement and love to the many many students and families who she had the pleasure to serve. It was always her joy to see these young students grow and it warmed her heart when they would return to check in on her and update her on their lives. Through this work she built a lasting legacy in the community she loved. After retirement, Jackie and her mother Virginia became avid travelers. They loved taking bus tours and seeing the country. Jackie eventually traveled on these bus tours so often she was offered a position hosting tours to various areas of the country. Her family loved traveling with her and seeing her host games and tell stories to the other passengers. Whether on the bus tours or running into her around town Jackie would always have a good story or joke to tell. She will be remembered as a master pinochle player, a loving friend and a supportive and loving mother and grandmother. Jackie is survived by her three sons: Lonie (Marcie) Zwahlen of Ferron, Utah, John (Brandy) Zwahlen of Fairfax, VA, and Bernerd Zwahlen of Alexandria, VA. Her sister: Elaine Hampton of California. Grandchildren: Donna (Eric) Wood, Brenda Thomas, and Christopher Wayman and Jesica Lewis; Great Grandchildren: Quade, Kelsee, Abigail, Kasen, Deegan, Michael, Ambree, Morgyn, and Kaden; her very special cousins and dear friends: Tim and Debbie Jacobson of Norwalk, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband John F. Zwahlen, her parents Bernerd and Virginia Jewkes, her sister Virgie Creech, her son Jeff Zwahlen, and her great granddaughter Erika Wood.
