James Scott Anderson, our father and grandfather, passed away at his home in Spring Glen, Utah on June 4, 2025.
He was born on March 25, 1949, in Dragerton, Utah to Mary Arline and James Basil Anderson. He grew up in Dragerton and was a lifelong resident of Carbon County. A graduate of Carbon High School and College of Eastern Utah, Jim spent his career as a mechanic and electrician working in several local coal mines. He married Sandra Selman in 1972 in Price, Utah after which they had four beautiful children whom they raised in Wellington. They later divorced.
Dad was our “Mister Fix-It”, someone who had a knack for not only knowing why something wasn’t working but also knew exactly how to make it work even better. He loved the outdoors and spent much of his vacation time fishing, boating or going for long drives. Part of those long drives was spent looking at the local geology. Jim had an almost encyclopedic knowledge of geology and enjoyed exploring the local countryside, either in a car or riding a motorcycle.
He is survived by his four children, Jamie Scott, Jeremy Troy, Jennifer Brook, and Jon Robert Anderson; three daughters-in-law, Melissa Kaye, Melinda and Keira Marie; his seven grandchildren, Jaden Scott, Tyler Kent, Gage McEwan, Kirby Kaye, Eve Marie, Daniel Jon, and Alexander Troy; as well as his sister, Lorraine Stevenson and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Lonnie Anderson; and his brother-in-law, James Stevenson.
