LaRae Jones Majors: Huntington, Utah

Our "Udderly Fantastic" LaRae peacefully danced to the other side on Tuesday February 8, 2022 after suffering with Congestive Heart Failure. LaRae was born in a little log home in Elmo on May 20, 1942 to Charles Franklin Jones and Zillah Faye Ericson. She was a 10 lb. breach baby and always joked that she had been going bass-ackward ever since. LaRae was the baby of five children. Her siblings Gene (Barbara) Jones, Maurice (Betty) Jones, Kathryn (LaMar) Mathie, and Veda Merline Jones took great care of her. She loved being spoiled as the baby of the family, but after becoming a Grandma to 5 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, she said her grandkids were never spoiled, they were just loved a lot, and loved them she did.

LaRae married her high school sweetheart, Jethro Clayton Majors on November 7, 1959 in Huntington. They had two children Eva Nadene (Todd Hinkins) and Michael Alex. They later divorced, but continued to take care of each other.

LaRae attended North Emery High School and treasured the friendships she gained there. She and Jethro lived for 10 years in Salt Lake City after High School where LaRae worked as a Legal Secretary. During that time they welcomed siblings and cousins to live in their home as they came to Salt Lake for school and work. She loved each one as her own.

After moving back to Huntington in 1969, LaRae began teaching dance again. She always had the dream of building her own dance studio from the time she taught in her childhood home at age 11. In 1976 her dream became a reality when LaRae's Dance Studio Gym was built. LaRae taught many dance classes from ballet, tap & jazz to aerobics and country swing. She was still coaching gymnastics the week of her death. LaRae employed many wonderful coaches, teachers and staff and loved and appreciated all of them. Teaching was her passion, and she loved every student who entered her studio. She had a gift of making each student feel like they were her favorite. LaRae loved unconditionally. She looked for the good in everyone she met and knew no strangers.

LaRae had a hard time sitting still, which is probably why she always had a side gig going along with teaching dance and gymnastics. She was a Brownie Scout Leader, 4-H Leader, PTA President, Co-Founder of Southern Utah Tumbling Association, Credit Union Board Member, and committee member of: Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development, Southern Utah Travel, City Zoning, Heritage Days, City Beautification, Summer Games Gymnastics, and a Faculty Member of the National Association of Dance and Affiliated Artists to name a few. LaRae also loved to cook, sew and plant flowers. She sewed hundreds of costumes in her day. She owned and operated Canyon Rim Cafe for many years. When the cafe closed, LaRae continued to cook her delicious soup and brownies for her snack bar. She enjoyed making meals for her sister, Merline every week as they got together each Friday. She had the gift of gab and could sell ice cubes to an Eskimo. If you don't have a Trasan Rag, Tanning Lotion, Scrapbook Treasures, or a Scentsy Candle on your shelf then somehow you escaped LaRae's sales pitch.

LaRae loved game shows and gambling. It was such a rush for her to see people win. She especially loved seeing her children, grandchildren and students excel. Every time the little ones in her gym did their first roll, cartwheel or shuffle step, she would celebrate with them. LaRae loved to travel and was grateful to visit many states and other countries. For her, life was an adventure waiting to happen.

LaRae was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, Relief Society President, Young Women President, Sunday School Teacher, Primary Secretary, Relief Society Teacher, Nursery Leader, Stake Activities Leader and more. She was the Camp Director for years and attended 27 Girls' Camps. She served an L.D.S. mission in 2002 to Russia where she was lovingly known as Sister Fantastic. She loved sharing her testimony boldly and in her quiet manner with the way she lived her life. LaRae loved the Lord and loved to serve. One of her favorite places was the temple.

LaRae is survived by Jethro, her children, sisters and grandchildren Jake (Lindsey) Hinkins, Bennett, Claire, Evalyn and Julia, Jaley (Bevan) Cox, Logan, Tayvi, Emree, Conley and Bentley, Jed (Sarin) Hinkins, Emika, Cambria, Delilah and Olivia, Jasha (Gary) Bosshardt, Camden, Avery, Asher and Ivy, and Jason Majors, along with many other friends, loved ones and students who loved her. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, sisters-in-law, special friends and extended family.

LaRae's life will be celebrated Thursday February 17, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., Huntington Stake Center.
