Melvin Udink

Melvin Henry Udink Kenilworth - Melvin Henry Udink, age 89, passed away on November 10, 2014 in Price, Utah. He was born on February 21, 1925 in Ogden, Utah to George Udink Sr. and Grace Hanssen. Both parents immigrated from Holland. Melvin grew up in Ogden, Utah, and joined the Army in June of 1943. He was sent to the Pacific in WWII and was in an anti-aircraft battalion. After WWII he returned to Ogden and met, and married, Donna May Allred on February 13, 1947. Soon after, Melvin joined the newly formed US Air Force; he made it his first career. Together he and Donna raised four children while living in different parts of the world and the US. After retiring from the Air Force in 1965 he and his family lived in Sacramento, California. In 1973 Mel and Donna moved to Carbon County, Utah, where they both enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing with their good friends Chuck and Dorothy Blackham, as well as other family members and friends. He and Donna loved their grandchildren and enjoyed being with them. In Carbon County Melvin worked first at Sears then spent many years working for, and retiring from, the Carbon County School District. Melvin loved to go for drives to "spot dear" and has participated in bowling leagues since 1973. He was still an active bowler this past spring and could still get "strikes"! He also enjoyed what he called "George Washington's" profile "in the hills" approaching Kenilworth. Special thanks go to Phil and Donna at Community Nursing Services for Dad's hospice care, Dad's neighbors, Dave and Kari Pilling and their continual care and support. It was invaluable! Thank you. Melvin is survived by his children: Luanne (Val) Flake of Bothell, WA, Barbara (Tony) Plescia of Newcastle, CA, Donald Udink of Kenilworth, UT; daughter-in-law, Cathy Udink of Price, UT; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Henry Carlos "Tom", Emma, Martha, Grace, Nora and Mary Ann. Preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna; son, Richard; daughter, Judy; sister, Minnie Louise; and brothers: David, George Jr., Herman, Eugene, William and Richard. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Price (680 East 100 South.) A viewing will be held on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the mortuary. Burial will be in the Price City Cemetery. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary.
