April 7, 1940 — June 20, 2015

Born April 7th 1940 to Rheuben Samuel and Ida Theo Black Jewkes of Orangeville, Utah, passed away June 20, 2015 in Flagstaff, Arizona due to natural causes. In his younger days, he served an LDS Mission in the North West Central States. Reuben then served in the Army and spent time in Germany. After an honorable discharge, he married Juanita Bentley in March of 1963 and later divorced. In July of 1972 he married Hilda Gething who later died. Reuben married Pearl Francisco in January of 2008. Reuben owned and operated Jewkes Mortuary in Springerville, AZ and Jewkes Mortuary in St. Johns, AZ for many years. In 1998 he started Silver Creek Chapel Mortuary in Taylor, AZ. These mortuaries built the foundations for the current Burnham Mortuaries in Eagar and St. Johns, AZ and Silver Creek Mortuary in Taylor, AZ. Many families have been served and cared for over the years by Reuben. Ruben had a soft place in his heart for the Native Americans, after having greatly served the Apache Tribe; he moved from Arizona to Tse Bonito, NM (near Window Rock, AZ) and opened Silver Creek Mortuary there, and until his death, continued serving the entire Navajo Tribe. He is survived by his wife Pearl, sisters, Mona Lee J. Grundvig of Price, UT, and Rayona Theo J. Powell of Saint George, Utah. Funeral services will be held in his honor on Wednesday, June 24th at 10:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, St. Michaels, AZ, with a public viewing beginning at 9:00 AM. Graveside services with interment will then follow the services and be held at the Orangeville Utah Cemetery on Friday, June 25th, 2015 at 11:00 am. Arrangements by Silver Creek Mortuary, Tse Bonito, NM and Fausett Mortuary in Price, UT.
