Virginia Slane

March 5, 1937 — December 9, 2020

Virginia Mae Starrett Slane Our sweet wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Virginia Mae Starrett Slane, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 9, 2020, surrounded by her husband and six children. Virginia was the last of her parents and siblings. They are now a complete and happy family again. Virginia was born in Gillette, Wyoming on March 5, 1937. She attended Hot Springs County High School in Thermopolis, Wyoming and later married Vernon William "Bill" Slane on December 6, 1956 in Vallejo, California while Bill was in the Navy. Later they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Alberta Cardston Canada Temple on July 3, 1958. Virginia was privileged to be a full-time mother and raise her children in Seattle, Washington; Tremonton, Utah; and Wellington, Utah. She worked for the Sun Advocate and Emery County Progress as a newspaper assembly worker. She made many friends--young and old--as she served in Primary and Relief Society, but her heart will always be with the children in her Primary classes. She served as Primary President as well. She is survived by her husband, Bill; daughters Patricia (Doug) Jensen of Saratoga Springs, UT formerly of Portland, OR, LeAnn (Terry) Ficklin of Salem, UT, Norma (Dennis) Tuck of Clinton, UT, and Kimberli (Todd) Davis of Clearfield, UT; sons Daniel (Amy) Slane of Battle Mountain, NV and Ryan (Neva) Slane of Kearns, UT; 28 grandchildren; and 51 (with 3 on the way) great-grandchildren. Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Nawry & Norma Mae Brown Starrett; brothers Robert "Bob" Starrett, Richard "Dick" Starrett, Ronald Starrett, and Lewis Starrett; sister Vivian Elaine Starrett Shepard; daughter-in-law Angie (Argerakis) Slane; and grandson Steven Douglas Jensen.
